Simon Cowell recently responded to rumors that he’s planning to leave America’s Got Talent. It doesn’t look like the judge is calling it quits anytime soon, although he did admit that he’s willing to end the show if it stops being good.

Is Simon Cowell Quitting AGT?

Recently, there were reports that Cowell was thinking about retiring from show business and spending more time with his family. Earlier this year, the music mogul moved out of London and to the English countryside.

Cowell told The Sun that he’s tried to slow down “a little bit,” admitting, “Sometimes you get tired. Seriously, I remember thinking this time last year I felt knackered and then this year I just feel better.”

The judge added that “some things just happened to come my way.” That includes “this boy band thing,” which could refer to a recent report that Cowell is getting ready to launch a new music group.

“I have been thinking about it for years and it’s like, ‘God, if I don’t do it now, then I’ll never do it,'” Cowell said. “Sometimes you’ve got to dive and just do it.”

Cowell Will End the Show If It Stops Being Good

“When we first started making these shows, I really thought if we could do two or three years, that would be great, and then when we got to five years, ten years, like it’s amazing,” Cowell said of Got Talent. “And now you’re saying 20.”

Although Cowell is excited by “the incredible amount of talent” currently competing on America’s Got Talent, he’s willing to call it quits if things stop being good. He explained, “If ever the casting got really bad, honestly, I would stop it in a heartbeat.”

Speaking of quitting, Cowell also told The Sun that he’s cutting down on cigarettes. He shared, “When I lost my voice earlier this year, I thought, well, I hadn’t smoked for ten days, so maybe I can go three weeks or whatever. And actually, not only can I stop, I feel the difference. So I haven’t smoked more than two cigarettes in a day for four months.”
